Our three favorite ways to fill cupcakes involve using a bismarck tip, a cupcake corer, and a paring knife. These methods can be used to fill mini, standard, and jumbo cupcakes. Certain methods work better than others depending on the size of the cupcake.

Cupcake Corer Method

Instructions

Press the cupcake corer down into the center of the cupcake.

Twist the cupcake corer as you press down to avoid squishing the cupcake.

Once the bottom portion of the cupcake corer is flat with the top of the cupcake, twist & remove the corer.

Press the plunger of the corer down to release the cake & set aside on a plate.

It is important to note that this method does not work well with a sticky cake recipe. The cake may stick to the corer & create a mess.

Fill the cavity created in the cupcake with your filling of choice, leaving some room at the top.

Press some of the cake that was left in the cupcake corer back into place to seal the filling.

Notes

This method works best with standard sized cupcakes. Cupcake corers can also be used for jumbo cupcakes, there will just be less filling than normal.

Paring Knife

Instructions

Press the paring knife down into the cupcake & cut out the center of the cupcake. Be sure to not cut all the way to the cupcake liner.

It works best to move the knife up & down to cut the cake evenly. Dragging the knife in a circular motion may tear the cupcake apart.

Remove the chunk of cake that was cut out & set aside on a plate.

Notes

This method works well for all sizes of cupcakes- mini, standard, & jumbo. You will just need to adjust how large of a circle you are cutting with the paring knife.

Bismarck Tip

Instructions

Add your favorite cupcake filling into a pastry bag fitted with a bismarck tip. For this method, a super chunky filling, such as apple, will not work well. We reccommend using a smooth or slightly chunky filling, like bavarian, raspberry, or blueberry.

Squeeze the pastry bag to fill the cupcake with the filling, slowly pulling the bismarck tip up as you go.

The top of the cupcake should begin to dome when the correct amount of filling has been added.

Notes

This method works well for all sizes of cupcakes- mini, standard, & jumbo. For mini cupcakes, you will not need to add as much filling. For jumbo cupcakes, you can press the bismarck tip in 3 different times so there will be filling throughout.
