Instructions
Prepare in advance the Halloween Royal Icing Embellishments using the Halloween and Fall Pattern Sheets by Autumn Carpenter. Follow the step by step instructions that are included with each set.
Prepare and Bake Cookies:
Preheat your oven according to the recipe instructions.
Prepare the sugar cookie dough according to your favorite recipe.
Roll out the dough and cut out tombstone shapes and bases using cookie cutters.
Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake according to the recipe. Allow them to cool completely.
Cover Cookies with Fondant:
Roll out the white fondant to a thickness similar to that of the cookies.
Use the same cookie cutters used for the cookies to cut out tombstone shapes from the fondant.
Attach the fondant to the cookies using piping gel, ensuring it adheres well.
Emboss Fondant:
Use the snap-together letters and numbers to emboss dates and words onto the fondant tombstones.
Use a flower/leaf modeling tool to create crevices and age markings on the fondant.
Leave to dry overnight before continuing.
Marble and Age the Tombstones:
Dilute black gel food color with water to create a wash.
Use a paper towel to blot, rub, and marble the surface of the tombstones, ensuring to get into the crevices.
Use a fine-tip brush to splatter and add details around the edge of the stones.
Add Details with Food Marker:
Use a black edible food marker to color in the dates, words, and crevices on the tombstones, enhancing the details.
Prepare the Base:
Pipe a generous amount of chocolate buttercream onto the base of the tombstones.
Cover the chocolate buttercream with chocolate crunch or crushed chocolate graham crackers to create a "dirt" mound.
Assemble and Decorate:
Stand the tombstones up in the "dirt" mound on their bases.
Embellish the tombstones with the royal icing layons you created from the Halloween and Fall Pattern Sheets by Autumn Carpenter.
Your 3D Tombstone Cookies should be ready to serve as a spooky Halloween treat!
