Instructions
Cover a cake board in brown fondant to represent the books cover. Add a brown leather strap where you will later place the lock.
Bake your favorite cake recipe in a book shaped cake pan or a rectangular cake pan. Allow it to cool completely.
Once cooled, level the cake if necessary to create a flat surface.
Sculpt the cake into the shape of a book, with one side slightly smaller than the other to resemble an open book.
Roll out white fondant on a surface dusted with powdered sugar. Roll it large enough to cover the entire cake.
Carefully drape the fondant over the cake, smoothing it down the sides to cover completely. Trim any excess fondant.
Use modeling tools to gently create texture on the sides of the cake, mimicking the layers of pages in a book.
Prepare your potion recipe to be printed on an edible image. May need to prepare 2 pages, one for each side of the book. Once ready, print it out using edible ink and edible image paper. Allow it to dry for a few minutes. Use modeling tools to make the page look ragged around the edges.
Carefully place the printed edible image with the potion recipe on top of the cake, ensuring it's centered and secure.
Dust the edges of the fondant-covered cake with cinnamon crystal color to add definition to the pages and to give the book an aged appearance. Use a camel mop brush to apply the cinnamon crystal color evenly, being sure to get into the crevices.
Mold a lock out of fondant and place it on the front cover of the cake. You can use a small padlock mold if available, or sculpt it by hand. Paint it gold with some luster dust and grain alcohol.
Place the creepy spider figurine on the cake to add an eerie touch.
